Go on, Blog...I dare you

Like many funny pictures on the web, if someone finds it hilarious enough it will make the rounds around the office, spread virally throughout the interwebs, and if you're lucky, it might even be featured as a top story on Digg.com. Now this happened to me yesterday when a good friend of mine posted a social media-related comic strip on my Facebook page.Dilbert, the main character in this comic strip, had just met the new Social Media Marketing Manager the company has hired. What's really funny about this is how the company's policy forbids the use of social networks, yet Beth's job is to promote the company using social media! She has been warned from blogging about how bad the company is.We have seen many real-life cases of online-related firings where employees have voiced their opinions on personal blogs and social networks, and suffered the consequence of having to clear out your desk the next morning. It got me wondering; as companies begin implementing social media policies for their staff, and with the increasing number of blog-related firings, will we see blogging guidelines come into play ? I'd love your thoughts on this.[Image via: Dilbert Comic]
